ASL Workshop

You asked, we listened! The Northern BC Children & Families Hearing Society presents a full-day ASL Workshop this month.

Join us on Saturday, September 28, 2019 from 9:00 am – 3:30 pm at the College of New Caledonia!

This event is FREE exclusively to families of children who are deaf or hard of hearing. (Note: We must follow government mandate and only offer this to families who have deaf or hard of hearing children.)

With our Partners at the helm, we have 2 sections available to you:

Session A:

Learning Sign Language Through Play & Routines (ages 0-5)

To service the parents and families of infants and toddlers (age 0-5), we’ve partnered with BC Family Hearing Services to offer a session from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm. This 3.5 hour session is designed to support parents (and relatives/family friends/older siblings) to learn ASL sign language for little ones. (NOTE: anyone participating must be connected to a child who is deaf or hard of hearing.)

This session is best for parents/adults and older siblings only. Daycare will not be available on site – please arrange for childcare and come out and learn, free of distraction.

Session B:

ASL Workshops for Adults: Beginner & Basic-Intermediate

NOTE:

AS OF SEPTEMBER 16, 2019, THE ASL BEGINNER SESSION IS NOW FULL! THERE ARE 3 SPACES AVAILABLE IN THE BASIC-INTERMEDIATE CLASS ONLY.

Thanks to the support of our friends from the BC Provincial Deaf & Hard of Hearing Services AND the Provincial Outreach for the Deaf & Hard of Hearing we are offering ASL workshops specifically to parents and families of children who are deaf/hard of hearing!

To accommodate both beginner and more experienced signers, we’ve created two sections throughout the day. Choose either the beginner’s OR the basic-intermediate workshop to best serve your needs. Not sure which one fits for you? Simply fill out the registration form and we’ll ask you all the right questions to get you into the right section. (NOTE: Again, we are mandated to offer this program for free ONLY for parents/family/friends of children who are deaf or hard of hearing.)

The ASL Adult Workshops will run from 9:00 am – 12:30 pm and 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm with a Lunch & Mingle Session in between. You’ll have ample opportunity for networking, connecting with the experts and exploring resources.
